"Never would I imagine myself standing on the flight deck of a LST, able to identify practically all the vessels in the Singapore Strait, able to actually comprehend what the other vessel is doing, able to take proper action to avoid collision"

"The blanket of stars, the electrifying view of sunrise, even the sea state that swept us. Those minute but lasting experiences is what made the me today. This is The Navy"

That was what I told my juniors the other day, and it just came out so naturally. Subconsciously, through the past 10 months or so, I've grown an attachment to the navy, one that is pretty deeply rooted to the family. The appeal of a different working culture, one that involves more than just colleagues and individuals, but instead a family working together, is huge. Sharing a quote from one of my most respected officers:

"it is no easy task to bring the ship across thousands of miles to faraway shores. it takes the concerted and dedicated will and effort of a committed team, with each member performing his or her task diligently and conscientiously. be it the chefs who work tirelessly to feed the people, or the radar and navigation specialists who help ensure that the ship remains on track, or the technicians who toil and sweat in the heat of the engine rooms just to ensure that they keep running. everyday is a reminder that the sum is always greater than its parts. and somewhere along those thousands of miles that we travelled, amidst all that we went through, i think we grew stronger as a family. " - CPT Neville Nah
